She Speaks to Angels by Ami Blackwelder Will Have You Soaring

She Speaks to Angels by Ami Blackwelder is the first book in a new trilogy. A young adult novel that brings together angels, demons, romance, and suspense into a gripping story.

Allison looks in shock as a popular football player falls to his death outside her classroom window. Unfortunately, this is not as unusual as you would expect. This begins a mystery that Allison unravels piece by piece. Angels? Demons? How could that even be possible? And more importantly, why do they want to kill her?

You will be waiting impatiently on the edge of your seat as you wait for what will happen on the next page. I am greatly looking forward to the release of book two.

There are many books out there with battles between angels and demons, good and evil; but She Speaks to Angels has elements I've never read in another book of its kind. Ami Blackwelder takes real life issues ans combines them with the supernatural to create a tale of gripping survival, intense romance, and puzzling mystery.

Ali's world changed abruptly when Tommy Bachelor jumped from the roof of her high school. But why would a popular football player kill himself? Ali believes that there's more to the incident than meets the eye and starts her own investigation into the suicide. What she finds is unbelievable. Angels in Manhattan? Yep, but they aren't the only ones taking up residence in the city. The demons, or Dark Angels, are also in town, and they want Ali dead. Why do they want her dead? Because she found out their secret and they are losing their power and the only way to get it back is by killing her. But the angels, or AngelFire, will do anything to protect her.

Ali doesn't know who she can trust. Dameon, the guy she's been crushing on since he transferred the Millennium High and is finally showing interest in her? Or the three new transfer students--Kian, Krysta, and Nathaniel--who warn Ali away from Dameon? What she does know is that none of them are what they seem and all of them are hiding something.

One of the unique things I really liked about She Speaks to Angels is the rules that the angels and demons are to live by. The AngelFire are pretty serious about keeping them, but the Dark Angels gain new, not necessarily stronger, powers by breaking them; such as fur or fangs. Breaking the rules results in loss of essence, loss of wings, and loss of gifts. One of the rules that Kian and Ali have grievance with is the one that states that there can be no intimacy with humans, otherwise there's a loss of wing power. This makes for some pretty intense moments between Ali and Kian when they do allow some small amount of physical contact.

I like that Ali didn't fall in love with Kian right away. She was so blinded by Dameon in the beginning that she never really saw Kian until it was almost too late. When she did finally see Kian, she realized her mistake in choosing Dameon over Kian. The fact that there can be little to no physical intimacy between them proves that their feelings are from the heart and not hormones. Because of the no intimacy rule, their relationship has an intensity that's purely emotional. I thought that the moments when Kian touches Ali with his ethereal form was very powerful, because it's the only way for them to really be able to touch without Kian losing his wing power.

The beginnings of Dameon and Sammael's plan for making an army of Fanged and Were demons to fight the AngelFire are revealed in She Speaks to Angels. With losses and gains at the end of this book, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact future events.

Ali Maney thinks she's just hit the high school jackpot when the hottest guy in the school starts paying attention to her, but she soon learns that the death of a classmate and the dark, hot Dameon are linked together and she's the next target for the sinister Dark Angel.

With the help of a group of newbies: Kian, Krysta and Nathaniel..who are AngelFire (angels for all intents and purposes), Ali tries to come to grips with the the reality that angels and demons do exist, while helping her new friends find a way to trap Dameon in hopes of stopping the demons from running wild in New York City.

As I've said before, I'm not generally a big angel story fan, but this one that I enjoyed. Ali was a girl who just wanted to be loved. She thought she finally found that in Dameon, but again, she finds that he didn't really want her...he wanted to get rid of her. But when she finally decides to trust in the group of newbies who have befriended her best friends, she finds the one person who loves her for who she is.

Kian, having spent most of his life living on the streets, is found by the AngelFire leader and now living amongst his kind. While he did his job, he was still an outsider. But when he find Ali, he finds the reason in his life. He knows he must follow the rules and he cannot have any kind of intimate contact with Ali, Kian knows he will do whatever is necessary to protect Ali from Dameon and those like him.

Ami Blackwelder does an excellent job of creating a storyline and characters that has your attention locked from the very beginning. I will definitely be looking for the next installment in the series.

SHE SPEAKS TO ANGELS is an action packed story that keeps you wanting more. School is let out early due to a student jumping off the school roof and falling to the ground in front of Ali’s English class window. Is it murder? Will Ali ever get together with Dameon or will it be Kian? Dameon’s pull on Ali is a bit stronger then Kians at first and this leads to her almost being killed. Ms. Blackwelder keeps you on the edge of you seat waiting to find out what happens next.

This is a must read for anyone who likes a good mystery.

Ami Blackwelder has done an amazing job again! Don’t miss adding this book to your “To-Read” Shelf!

Allison is sitting in her High School English class when Tommy, a popular football player jumps from the school roof and dies. All of Millennium High is shocked at the suicide but Allison is more than just shocked, she is suspicious. Her and her friends take it upon themselves to investigate Tommy’s death and what they find is more dangerous than any depressed teen suicide. Allison soon gets sucked into the world of Angelfire, angels who serve mankind by protecting humans from demons…..demons like Dameon.

Dameon has made it his mission to harm Allison and anyone who gets in his way. Now she must work will the amazingly handsome Kian to save New York from falling under the control of Dameon and his gang.

Blackwelder has created an angel story that surpasses other popular YA paranormal’s like Hush, Hush. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the world of Angelfire and getting to know the characters that made this story so memorable. Not many stories start off so intriguing and it doesn’t take much time to realize what seemed like a teenage suicide was really a murder. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series! Make the Angelfire series part of your library today!

Review of Dumah's Demons

from LynnaReynolds.Wordpress.com
My Thoughts:
This book starts off with the aftermath of some violence against Dumah. At that point, I came to realize that you will need to read She Speaks to Angels in order to understand some of the characters in this novella. Dumah’s story is a great incentive to go back and start from book one.
Dameon has come to her rescue and lets her know that they have a connection. He’s a character that I can’t decide if he’s good or evil. But that’s a good thing because he’s one reason to continue to read the series in order to try to figure him out.
What’s great about this story is that Dumah lets you know how old she is but the reader doesn’t get a sense of Dameon’s age. But I will need to read She Speaks to Angels before I will know for sure. Otherwise, the reader can make the choice. By making this a novella, there is no waste of scenes and no time to be bored. It’s also a great book to read if you only have a couple of hours and you want a great paranormal to read.
The ending will leave the reader hanging and wanting to go back for more. This book gets the reader ready for Falling Angels. I hope you will check out Ami’s vlog to give you a little incite as to what it’s about. You will not be disappointed if you follow this author.
